Learning New Rider Skills in Oklahoma

Nine Club members enjoyed the 20th of September taking part in a Slow Riders course instructed by Troopers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Motorcycle Division. The free course, held in Lawton, Oklahoma in a casino parking lot, provided invaluable safe riding skills. The course curriculum ran the gamut of riding skills, from counter steering, to clutch control, to righting a dropped bike, to coming to a stop leaving only one foot on the ground. The main theme in most exercises that the instructors continuously emphasized was to not look down when handling a bike at a slow speed.

At completion a short exam was given, and certificates presented. The certificates included a certificate that can be presented to an insurance company assuring the graduate of a premium discount.

The course is made possible by partnership with the Oklahoma Departments of Transportation and Public Safety. The training was free thanks to funding provided by a grant provided to these departments.

All who participated agreed the course helped with their bike handling at slow speeds.
