One Man’s Breakfast Story

Club Breakfast at the Boerne Grill

By Randy Logan, SABMWRA President

Great to be with you all recently. I thought I would share my gratitude and perspective of the club breakfast.

My alarm goes off early Saturday morning after a long week of work and I have a little more bounce in my step and noticeable twinkle in my tired eyes. After dressing, I head to my garage to prep my bike and it is very apparent there is a substantial chill in the air followed by the very brisk wind and overcast skies. On a normal riding day I would go back into the house for another cup of coffee and reevaluate my plan. But today was different. Today I’m filled with anticipation and excitement knowing I was going to meet up with my fellow club members for breakfast in a destination about an hour away. So the prep of my bike, ignoring the conditions, was easy and painless. I mount my bike, give a quick beep of my horn and wave, like I do to oncoming motorcycles, to my wife who is at the kitchen window brimming with a big smile.

I hop onto the freeway, the wind trying to push me over and the cold penetrating my layered riding gear when my playlist presents Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog and everything in my helmet world becomes perfect and my ride turns into an effortless glide down the two-track freeway. I’m reminded of where I am surrounded by the openness of the area, the big open sky that makes me feel small, and with peace and purpose filling my heart.

I arrived at the breakfast rendezvous, a location chosen without any previous knowledge or experience of the restaurant, and a parking spot right up front calling my name was open, obviously an indication that this was going to be a great experience. Another bike pulls in next to me like the timing of the Blue Angels doing a scripted formation. We take our helmets off to share briefly our adventure to the location, cold and wind being the dominate topic. Other bikes start showing up and the townspeople welcoming us to their special corner of paradise. I had somewhat of idea that people would show up, but my smile and excitement grew by the moment as we started to assemble for our morning of socializing and breaking bread today was starting to unfold. We walked into the restaurant and eye a table that would accommodate the expected group, but two patrons were posted up. One of our esteemed members was having a cordial conversation and low a behold the table was ours.

The table started to fill up with members riding from all over the area. We settle in and the conversations were in high gear. We all ordered our meals and the conversations continued and the friendships start forming. You see, I’m new to the club and being with likeminded, well-respected people was a dream I held and now realized after moving to the hill country a year ago.

I was sitting next to royalty, as many restaurant patrons stop by to give one of our members praise and acknowledgment. A testament to the quality of our members.

We talked bikes, careers, more about bikes, tires, cars, adventures, and, of course, more about bikes.

When breakfast came to an end, everyone, but me, were off to scout a meeting place for our club future meet up. I decided to head west and see what the road would bring. I had to keep pinching myself on how blessed and fortunate that I am to have been with such great people and belong to an amazing club and community of riders. I will cherish the friendships and quality of upstanding people in my life in Texas.

It was a perfect Saturday and I look forward to many more adventures and social gatherings with my new family of riders.
